Winchester said just like 2011, he has chosen to enter the Soca Monarch competition this year because it offers a platform that allows for great exposure. He says he doesn't feel pressured at all. In fact, he says the real pressure is on the current title-holders, who must prove that they can repeat their win in 2012. For Winchester, it’s all about pe forming for the fans, giving them a show that he knows they look forward to each year. “On Fantatsic Friday, everybody is in Trinidad and everybody is at this big show. I like the process of it, putting together the production and then presenting it and listening and looking as the crowd takes it all in. Nothing could be more satisfying than that feeling of satisfying them,” he said. Winchester kicked things off for the C2K12 season quite early, releasing his first single in August of 2011. Harder, on the Rich Boy riddim, rode a wave of success from the moment of its release and continues to hold great musical value. Since then, he has released a number of singles, among them two hits that he will head to
Fantastic Friday with in his back pocket. His Power single, We Love is all about Trinbagonians’ love for the festival that is Carnival. “We love Carnival time, jumping up in the morning lime. We love facing the sun, jumping up till the morning come,” he sings, telling the world of the passion Trinbagonians feel for the season of revelry. It’s not unlike Shurwayne Winchester to offer lyrics that steal the hearts of those who truly live for the festival. With a number of groovy tracks to choose from, Winchester says he’ll head to the semis with the women’s anthem of 2012—Wining Addiction. With a humble spirit and an aim to simply spread his music across all spaces and places, Shurwayne Winchester will stand among his cohorts in the soca biz on January 29 at the Arima Velodrome. He is excited but not for the usual reasons. “I’m excited to give the people a show, to please them once again.”
